This blog thing is new for me, so you'll see quite clearly my learning curve and my children can expect frequent calls for coaching and reassuring. I wrote a whole post and thought I had saved it when I went to our first District mtg, but obviously I didn't, so I'll try again.
Life with the LeBarons -
Neil and I entered the MTC on Aug. 5th and had an amazing experience. We were 2 of a 128 senior missionaries that week. That is the largest group they have ever had. It was an exciting and empowering week as we studied the missionary guide "Preach My Gospel" and practiced sharing the gospel with others. The next week we met with 68 of those original missionaries for CES(church education system) training. There were couples like us who are going to teach Institute, couples who will be military liaisons, and couples working with Young Single Adult Programs. This was the part that worried me the most since I don't really consider myself a gospel scholar, but the training really gave me courage and emphasized helping students learn the doctrines of the gospel through the scriptures and that the Spirit is the teacher, not me being the teacher teaching from my great font of knowledge.
It was a little anti-climatic to come home to finish packing after such a spiritual high, but it was a great time to say a lot of goodbyes. I am so lucky to have such great friends, family and visiting teachers. Susan Stidham and Debbie Goodman helped piece Bob's wedding quilt, my sister in law, Lynnette quilted it and Saysha Reyes and Monique Heiner came the day of the family wedding dinner and helped cut up fruit, make salads and bake pies.
It was a little tense on Friday morning not knowing what the weather would be since there had been huge thunderstorms the whole week and it was pretty dark and ominous most of the day. Bobbi and Sherm Smith(Joe and Carrie's parents) were so kind to offer their home and yard for a siblings dinner for the Bride and Groom. Bob is our baby and Mary is the baby of 10 children. My brother, John and his daughter, Abigail were our chefs extraordinaire and prepared the best grilled salmon ever.
Once I post this, then I will try to access it with Neil's phone so I can download some pictures and I will continue the saga in an abbreviated form. We have to do it piecemeal until we get connected to the internet at our apt. Enjoy the holiday weekend.
